Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve Invasive Pull Weed Wrangle

Description

Join the Fight for Native Habitats: Ritchey Woods Weed Wrangle!

The City of Fishers is teaming up with the Hamilton County Invasive Partnership (HIP) to host an invasive species pull, and we need your hands to help protect one of our local gems: Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve.

Invasive plants may look green, but they crowd out the native wildflowers and trees that our local birds and pollinators rely on. We are looking for 30 dedicated volunteers to help us clear the way for a healthier ecosystem.

Event Details

  • Date: Saturday, March 21
  • Time: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
  • Location: Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve
  • Volunteer Goal: 30 People

What We’ll Be Doing

Volunteers will work alongside experts from HIP to identify and remove invasive vegetation. This is a "hands-on" event where we will be pulling, lopping, and bagging plants to prevent them from spreading further into the preserve.

What’s Provided

We want to make your impact as easy as possible! We will provide:

  • Work gloves
  • Trash bags
  • Removal tools (loppers, trowels, etc.)

What to Bring & Wear

  • Sturdy, closed-toe shoes (boots are recommended as terrain may be uneven or muddy).
  • Long pants and long sleeves to protect against scratches or brush.
  • A reusable water bottle.

Note: No prior experience is necessary! We will provide a brief training at the start of the shift to show you exactly which plants are the "bad guys" and the best techniques to remove them. Ready to make a difference in your backyard? Join us for a rewarding afternoon of conservation and community!
