Volunteer Opportunities From: Volunteer Fishers

To foster connections and support among various Fishers organizations, businesses, and residents in our community, the City of Fishers hosts a monthly Mayor's Breakfast event. This gathering takes place in the theater at Fishers Municipal Center, 1 Municipal Drive. 

We are seeking enthusiastic volunteers to assist with setup, attendee check-in, and tear-down. Volunteers should be comfortable using a computer and able to work efficiently. Breakfast will be provided. New shifts added.

Join the Geist Half Marathon Team and volunteer as a Course Marshall. Volunteers will stand at a determined location to ensure the safety of participants. Course Marshall volunteers will pick up safety vests and receive instruction anytime during packet pick on Friday, September 12 between 11:00 am & 8:00 p.m. at Grace Church, 12450 Olio Road, Fishers, Indiana 46037.  Course Marshal volunteers must be 18 years old or older.  All course marshals will be supplied with a cow bell to help cheer on participants.

Join the City of Fishers volunteer team and volunteer with the Fall 2025 HOA Workshop at the new Municipal Complex on Wednesday, September 17 from 7:00  - 9:00  a.m. and 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed to assist with set up, checking in and greeting participants and helping them with direction to breakout sessions. Breakfast will be provided. The shift from 12:00 - 2:00 will assist with teardown. Only registered HOA board members can attend this workshop.

Would you like an ongoing volunteer opportunity that will foster relationships and connect with the youth of Hamilton Southeastern Schools? We are seeking dedicated volunteers who are available to assist with 3rd grade local government study trips at the new City Government Complex on select Fridays from 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.  Due to the nature of this opportunity, we are asking volunteers to commit to at least 10 of the 20 sessions. Lunch will be provided.

Volunteers will assist with navigating students to their proper location, keep our presenters on time, guide students through activities, distribute supplies, and help answer general questions. Training will be provided.

The Fishers Park Steward program allows the public to be directly engaged in caring for the local parks and greenways and thus benefit the entire community by ensuring the long-term sustainability of our natural resources. Holland Park Stewards will assist with the removal of trash and debris, pull weeds and invasives, and report damage and/or vandalism. Ideal for individuals, families, neighbors, groups, troops and organizations.

Join the Geist Half Marathon volunteer team! Volunteers will assist with collecting, organizing, and returning bags to participants. 

Join the Geist Half Marathon Volunteer team and assist with monitoring the VIP and Volunteer parking lots. VIP participants and Volunteers will have a designated parking lots. The lots will be clearly marked and the VIP members and Volunteers will have placards for easy identification. Safety volunteer vests will be provided.  

Fishers residents can go behind the scenes of local government and hear from staff, tour City facilities and engage in the collaborative city governing process in the City of Fishers’ City Government Academy (CGA). At the end of the 9-week course, participants will have a greater understanding of how the Fishers government works. The academy is free and open to Fishers residents who are ages 18+.

In partnership with the City of Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern Schools, and the Eman schools, the Mayor’s Youth Academy offers the opportunity to build community awareness, provide hands-on learning opportunities that enhance curriculum, and inspire future careers in the public sector. The Fishers Mayor’s Youth Academy is a year-long experience provided by the City of Fishers for high school juniors and seniors who live in and or attend school in Fishers with a GPA of at least 3.0 to be eligible for the program.Registration for the 2023-2024 school year is closed.

The academy is an opportunity for the community to participate in police-style training through a 12-week course. Topics include criminal law, crime prevention, the K9 program, defensive tactics, and narcotics training through demonstrations and classroom instruction. Email Allison Nicholson for more info.

Open to young adults 14 to 19 years old, this free program exposes participants to the Police Department and helps those interested in law enforcement careers to make an informed decision. Programs offered include crime scene investigation, traffic stops, use of police dogs, SWAT, computer crimes, and more. All meetings are open to new members. The 15th annual Fishers Police Department Teen Academy will be held June 20th - 24th in conjunction with the Fishers YMCA.  This year’s academy will be held at Riverside Intermediate in Fishers.  The academy is one week of law enforcement type training that will allow teens to better understand how law enforcement works.  The academy will also allow teens to get to know several officers through a variety of social activities. 

 The academy is open to any applicant 13 years of age or older.  Applicants must be enrolled in a junior high or high school in Fishers.  Each applicant is subject to a screening process and therefore walk-ins will not be allowed. We only have 40 spots available for this year’s academy!  If you are interested, please contact Officer Cory Robinson at robinsonc@fishers.in.us to begin the screening process.

The Fishers Police Corps is a group of volunteers comprised of citizens who have completed the Fishers Police Citizens Academy and who wish to continue to support the Fishers Police Department through volunteer activities. The Corps volunteers at Touch-A-Truck, Pack the Cruiser, Teen Academy and Police Explorers Summer Camps, National Night Out, the Octoberfest FOP event, Boo Bash, Cops & Kids, the Awards Banquet, vehicle fleet checks, the FPD annual meeting, and other community events. The group also raises funds in order to support the department by providing food for the officers at various events, recognition during the holidays and on their birthdays, conducting fleet checks of the vehicles and many other activities as they arise.  Every year our group provides a $1,500 scholarship for a student at Hamilton Southeastern or Fishers High School who is interested in pursuing a law related career.  CLICK HERE for further information.

The Fishers Fire Department Citizen’s Academy is a free 8-week program designed to increase understanding of fire and emergency medical operations and to promote citizen interaction with the Fishers Fire Department Personnel. The program is designed to enhance awareness of the department’s capabilities, develop realistic expectations of response times from the point of dispatch, and develop a cooperative relationship between firefighters and the citizens of Fishers. A Fire Corps member provides support to the firefighters by performing services at emergency incidents and non-emergency events at department facilities and department functions. This includes responding to incidents to provide incident rehabilitation to firefighters and support to individuals affected by an emergency. The Fire Corps maintains the Rehab Support Unit (RSU) apparatus, equipment, and supplies, and provides rehabilitation services during hands-on training events.

 Responsibilities include:

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, pass a criminal background check, and have received a high school diploma or GED. All candidates must complete the Fire Corp Application and Background Disclosure and Authorization Form.

The Geist Half Marathon is a dynamic, festive community event drawing runners and walkers from across the region. Each year we seek to line the course route with spirit squads and entertainment groups to cheer on our participants. Your group may be large or small, and it may feature cheer routines, high-energy dance and/or music, posters, noisemakers, or any other approved activity. Please CLICK HERE to apply. 

Join the Geist Half Marathon & 5K volunteer team! Our volunteer floaters will assist with volunteer check in, deliver snacks and drinks to volunteers, and fill in where needed. A volunteer t-shirt, snacks and drinks will be provided. 

Join the Geist Half Marathon volunteer team! Volunteers will assist runners with finding their corrals and answer questions before the race, and then distribute medals, water, and snacks when the participants return to the finish line. Great for families and organizations, and kids 12 or older. 

Join the Geist Half Marathon Volunteer Bike Team! Volunteers will ride in front of the lead runners to let course staff know they're on their way and lead them to the finish line. No advance training required. Volunteers will be given all information they need when they check in with a race leader. Bike Team volunteers must provide their own bike.

The Volunteer Fishers platform is a complimentary web-based volunteer management tool for companies to manage employees’ volunteer opportunities and hours volunteered. The Volunteer Fishers platform makes it easy for companies to create and manage a landing page that provides resources and volunteer opportunities approved by the company within the Fishers community. Volunteer leadership has access to reports that allow them to share their impact within the community. While the Volunteer Fishers site is designed to create and support large group company volunteer opportunities, we also invite businesses to encourage their employees to utilize Volunteer Fishers to find, sign-up for, and participate in other individual volunteer opportunities.  

How to Get Involved:  

The City of Fishers values volunteerism and can provide free consultation for your business to create custom volunteer opportunities such as a park cleanup, mulch spreads, or a planting event at the Fishers AgriPark.  In addition, the City offers many volunteer opportunities in conjunction with the following City events:

The City of Fishers has enacted the Adopt-A-Fire Hydrant program to ensure the safety of our residents and to assist the Fishers Fire Department.

In the winter months heavy snowfall can bury fire hydrants, making it difficult for firefighters to locate and access them during an emergency, when every second counts! The City of Fishers is asking residents and other community members to sign up and Adopt-A-Fire Hydrant to help keep Fishers safe.

The Role of an Adopt-A-Fire Hydrant Participant

The primary role is to make sure the adopted fire hydrant is clearly visible from the street
