At the conclusion of an Anywhere Project, you'll drop off your completed donations to one of our collection points around the Indy area and we will take them to a local nonprofit who needs them.  At our In Person events families register to attend together to participate in an educational activity, engage in a hands-on service project, and are provided with meaningful reflection. You will have the opportunity to purchase and prepare or cater a meal to our guests experiencing homelessness and hunger. This opportunity allows families or groups to work together to create a special event by providing a unique menu and experience. Share-a-Meal hosts have many different options: prepare and cook a meal in a commercial kitchen, cater the meal, provide tablecloths and centerpieces, include notes with each tray, and even possibly provide dinner entertainment/music.

Purchase, assemble, and deliver 120 Sack Meals for our guests at Wheeler Mission - Bloomington! Join your family, friends, neighbors, or colleagues in preparing sack meals. Sack meals should be prepared by individuals or groups in a commercial kitchen exercising proper food handling precautions.

Donations can be dropped off to Come to Me Food Pantry at 9691 East 116th Street, Fishers, Indiana. The pantry is located behind the Fishers United Methodist Church in a small building labeled Fellowship Hall.  Donations can be dropped off 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Our Habitat ReStore sells donated new and gently used household items, including cabinets, appliances, furniture, doors, building materials and more, and store proceeds support the Habitat mission.

There’s always work to be done at the ReStore and every day is different! As a volunteer you will work alongside our staff and help us provide affordable housing in the Greater Indy area.

Volunteers serving as Winter Contingency Monitors play a vital role in this life-saving effort—helping provide hospitality, safety, and support to guests during the coldest months of the year.

The Fishers Health Department is seeking dedicated volunteers to assist with translating vaccination records written in languages other than English—specifically Kurdish and Arabic. This vital work helps our clinical team determine which immunizations are still needed for patients and ensures accurate public health documentation.

This is an on-demand opportunity that can be fulfilled at your convenience during regular office hours. Volunteers will be contacted via email with further instructions once they express interest.

Our volunteers offer patience, kindness and companionship to patients and their families in hopes of peace and understanding. Volunteers donate their time and efforts in a wide variety of ways, such as reading to, talking with, writing a letter for the patient or give a family member a little time off from the role of primary caregiver.

Volunteers may also be asked to provide office support to our business team. Tasks may include handling phone calls, making copies, attending memorial services and helping with a variety of special events or projects. Many of our volunteers have benefited from hospice care personally during a loved one’s serious illness, and they want to help families facing the same difficult time. Others are simply compassionate individuals who want to give themselves in a very special way. Our hospice volunteers often work directly with patients and families, providing compassion, companionship, and emotional support. The NAMI Ending the Silence Volunteer Experience:

NAMI Indiana is currently looking for volunteers for our NAMI Ending the Silence presentation. Ending the Silence (ETS) is a prevention and early intervention program that engages youth, school staff and families in a discussion about mental health. Audience members learn to recognize the early warning signs of mental health conditions and learn what to do if they or someone they know is showing these signs. The chance to hear directly from a young adult with a mental health condition dispels myths, instills a message of hope and recovery and encourages individuals to reduce stigma. Volunteers can get trained to be a lead or young adult presenter. The lead presenter shares an informative presentation via PowerPoint(25 mins), while the young adult presenter shares their journey of recovery (10 mins).

Training:

NAMI Ending the Silence volunteers will go through a self-paced online training. Once the training is completed, volunteers must complete a mock presentation with the NAMI Indiana staff before being cleared to give their first presentation.

Minimum Time Commitment Requirements:

We ask all volunteers to commit to at least 1 presentation per month when applicable.

Program leader qualifications:

Prospective leaders must meet one of the following descriptions: (1) young adult age 18-35 in recovery with a mental health condition; (2) adult who is either a family member or a person with a mental health condition.

CoCoRaHS, the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network, is a nationwide volunteer observing program funded by many organizations, including the National Weather Service. Observers in this program measure rain, snow and hail, and report it on the CoCoRaHS website. The data is then distributed to the public directly and to many different partners, including the National Weather Service. We serve approximately 4,000 households each week in addition to delivering to 380 homebound neighbors each Wednesday.

Distribution Center 1201 E. Maryland Street:  This is the hub that receives all the material donations from our community. We need volunteers to receive and sort/organize clothing, shoes, linens, and household donations. Also need volunteers to assist at the dock.

Established in 1992, the Adopt-A-Road program is an opportunity for individuals, community groups, and organizations to volunteer and take pride in the appearance of our community. At the same time, this allows the City to concentrate more of its resources on road maintenance and construction.

By giving our office 48-hour advanced notice, we will be able to provide you with all the necessary equipment needed to perform your pick-ups. The city will supply safety vests, gloves, and plastic trash bags. Upon your notification, we will remove the bags from the roadside, and any large or dangerous items that you/your organization flag.

Project Play relies heavily on volunteer support, especially during the holiday season, when they receive nearly half of their referrals. The City of Fishers has enacted the Adopt-A-Storm Drain program to improve the water quality of our streams while reducing flood risk in our community. Storm drains (also known as catch basins) are crucial parts of the city’s infrastructure that collect rainfall and snowmelt that cannot be absorbed through asphalt or pavement. Keeping these drains clear and free of debris prevents pollutants from entering local waterways and helps reduce localized flooding by ensuring water can flow freely down the drain. 

Adopt-a-Storm Drain is a Fishers volunteer program that provides the public with an opportunity to be actively involved in clearing storm drains.  The endeavor strives to improve the water quality of our streams while reducing flood risk in our community. Storm drains are important infrastructure that redirect rainfall to our waterways. They can often get clogged with debris or used for dumping pollutants. Protect storm drains near you by making sure only rain goes down the drain! The City of Fishers is asking residents and other community members to sign up and Adopt-A-Storm Drain to help keep Fishers safe.

Wash Pack-Veggie Prep Team: The wash pack team is active weekly from late May to late October in 2023. This crew washes or otherwise cleans, packages, bunches, weighs, and sorts our harvest for sale and distribution. Each shift is two hours.  Most job require standing on hard surfaces but we can accommodate for seated positions.

Staffing the Front Desk is a great way to see all that happens at Noblesville Creates. You will greet guests, answers questions (as you can), answer the phone, collect art from artists for the next exhibit, make sales, and more. Full training is available and a staff member will always be available to answer any questions you have or questions you cannot answer. This volunteer opportunity is available any time Noblesville Creates is open: Wednesdays-Fridays from Noon to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Any part of these times you can fulfill would be quite helpful and allow our staff more time to focus on upcoming events, exhibits, and classes.

Assist Nickel Plate staff with the set-up of tables, chairs, food, tents, umbrellas, and art activities.

At the end of the 9-week course, participants will have a greater understanding of how the Fishers government works. The academy is free and open to Fishers residents who are ages 18+.

In partnership with the City of Fishers, Hamilton Southeastern Schools, and the Eman schools, the Mayor’s Youth Academy offers the opportunity to build community awareness, provide hands-on learning opportunities that enhance curriculum, and inspire future careers in the public sector. The Fishers Mayor’s Youth Academy is a year-long experience provided by the City of Fishers for high school juniors and seniors who live in and or attend school in Fishers with a GPA of at least 3.0 to be eligible for the program.Registration for the 2023-2024 school year is closed.

The academy is an opportunity for the community to participate in police-style training through a 12-week course. Topics include criminal law, crime prevention, the K9 program, defensive tactics, and narcotics training through demonstrations and classroom instruction. Email Allison Nicholson for more info.

Open to young adults 14 to 19 years old, this free program exposes participants to the Police Department and helps those interested in law enforcement careers to make an informed decision. Programs offered include crime scene investigation, traffic stops, use of police dogs, SWAT, computer crimes, and more. All meetings are open to new members. The 15th annual Fishers Police Department Teen Academy will be held June 20th - 24th in conjunction with the Fishers YMCA.  This year’s academy will be held at Riverside Intermediate in Fishers.  The academy is one week of law enforcement type training that will allow teens to better understand how law enforcement works.  The academy will also allow teens to get to know several officers through a variety of social activities. 

 The academy is open to any applicant 13 years of age or older.  Applicants must be enrolled in a junior high or high school in Fishers.  Each applicant is subject to a screening process and therefore walk-ins will not be allowed. We only have 40 spots available for this year’s academy!  If you are interested, please contact Officer Cory Robinson at robinsonc@fishers.in.us to begin the screening process.

The Fishers Police Corps is a group of volunteers comprised of citizens who have completed the Fishers Police Citizens Academy and who wish to continue to support the Fishers Police Department through volunteer activities. The Corps volunteers at Touch-A-Truck, Pack the Cruiser, Teen Academy and Police Explorers Summer Camps, National Night Out, the Octoberfest FOP event, Boo Bash, Cops & Kids, the Awards Banquet, vehicle fleet checks, the FPD annual meeting, and other community events. The group also raises funds in order to support the department by providing food for the officers at various events, recognition during the holidays and on their birthdays, conducting fleet checks of the vehicles and many other activities as they arise.  Every year our group provides a $1,500 scholarship for a student at Hamilton Southeastern or Fishers High School who is interested in pursuing a law related career.  CLICK HERE for further information.

The Fishers Fire Department Citizen’s Academy is a free 8-week program designed to increase understanding of fire and emergency medical operations and to promote citizen interaction with the Fishers Fire Department Personnel. The program is designed to enhance awareness of the department’s capabilities, develop realistic expectations of response times from the point of dispatch, and develop a cooperative relationship between firefighters and the citizens of Fishers. A Fire Corps member provides support to the firefighters by performing services at emergency incidents and non-emergency events at department facilities and department functions. This includes responding to incidents to provide incident rehabilitation to firefighters and support to individuals affected by an emergency. The Fire Corps maintains the Rehab Support Unit (RSU) apparatus, equipment, and supplies, and provides rehabilitation services during hands-on training events.

 Responsibilities include:

Candidates must be at least 18 years of age, pass a criminal background check, and have received a high school diploma or GED. All candidates must complete the Fire Corp Application and Background Disclosure and Authorization Form.

3. Do a one-time family/neighborhood/holiday/birthday/bar-batmizvah shoe collection and take them to one of our shoe drop locations.
