Volunteers serving as Winter Contingency Monitors play a vital role in this life-saving effort—helping provide hospitality, safety, and support to guests during the coldest months of the year.

Democracy in Dialogue is a Smithsonian virtual exchange program aimed at engaging students and educators from various backgrounds in meaningful discussions about democracy and community. A group of 10-25 youth will form an in-person cohort at Conner Prairie, and meet virtually with a partner cohort elsewhere in the US. The cohort will work together to produce a final research/oral history/video project. The program will run January through April, 2026.

All young people who will be between the ages of 10-18 by January 1 are welcome to apply for the Democracy in Dialogue track. We would love a cohort as diverse as our local community. We will have a high rate of acceptance up to 25 participants. Applications are due January 9, 2026. Apply online here.

Youth ages 10-18 may apply for the General Youth Volunteer program. Guest interaction is a primary focus of this position. Youth in this program primarily interpret on our historic areas, both in modern uniform and in costume. Some of these youth also assist with Special Events and Camp. Applications for this type of volunteer are now open. Youth must be 10 years old by April 1, 2026 to apply. Applications will be due January 9, 2026.

Fishers Parks and Health Department have partnered with Fishers Junior High School to offer an open gym concept every Sunday from 1-5 pm starting November 9 - March 29th. We're seeking a volunteer to assist with setup, teardown, and to assist participants with a few aspects of the use of this facility. Staff will need help with loading, unloading equipment, supervising participants, following check in/check out procedure, and ensuring safety and proper use of this shared space. Volunteers under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

We have the following shifts available:

12:30 - 1:30: Assist with setup

12:30 - 2:45: Assist with setup and during the open gym

2:30 - 5:00: Assist during open gym and teardown

4:30 - 5:30: Assist with teardown

A Paradigm Health volunteer offers an extra layer of support and comfort to patients and families. A volunteer visit can provide patients with companionship, boost their self-esteem and decrease loneliness.  

Our volunteers are specially trained but do not provide direct patient care, give medications, or make medical decisions. As an invaluable resource to patients and families, you will bring a friendly smile, warm conversation, a hand to hold or offer a welcome respite for a family. Stocking Day Volunteer 

Join us to help keep our pantry stocked and ready for families in need. Volunteer roles include but are not limited to the following:

Shelf Stocking Team Volunteers receive, inspect, and organize new inventory, separating products in the designated area of the pantry. They check for product damage, cover barcodes, complete inventory forms, and place new items on the shelves.

Pantry Bag Packing Team Volunteers assemble and pack 100 pantry bags, each containing essential items such as toothbrushes, soap, deodorant, laundry soap, toilet paper, shampoo, and other hygiene products. Packed bags are then organized on shelves for easy access.

Clean-Up and Safety Team Volunteers ensure that the pantry area is clean and safe by organizing shelves, breaking down cardboard, and taking out recycling and trash. They also ensure all doors and walkways are clear and secure the pantry before leaving.

Winter Contingency Monitors play a crucial frontline role at Wheeler Mission—Bloomington in ensuring that our neighbors experiencing homelessness have a safe, warm, and welcoming environment during the coldest months of the year. Volunteers assist staff with guest check-in, provide hospitality, support basic shelter operations, and help maintain a calm and respectful environment within our Emergency Shelter Services building.

This is one of the most impactful volunteer opportunities during the winter season — helping save lives when temperatures drop.

The Fishers Health Department is seeking dedicated volunteers to assist with translating vaccination records written in languages other than English—specifically Kurdish and Arabic. This vital work helps our clinical team determine which immunizations are still needed for patients and ensures accurate public health documentation.

This is an on-demand opportunity that can be fulfilled at your convenience during regular office hours. Volunteers will be contacted via email with further instructions once they express interest.

Our hospice volunteers often work directly with patients and families, providing compassion, companionship, and emotional support. Welcome to the City of Fishers Geist Reservoir Cleanup Steward Program.  Trash, debris, and pollutants in the reservoir do not stay in one spot forever: it all moves on to other rivers, lakes, and streams. Even the harmful chemicals found in trash, debris, and pollutants present dangers to all forms of aquatic life. Cleaning up our waterways prevents pollution like plastic waste from reaching our oceans. 80% of plastic waste is carried to oceans via small rivers and streams that flow through densely populated urban areas. Plastic in our waterways can get entangled with wildlife, or can sometimes look like food to them. Do your part by becoming a Geist Reservoir Cleanup Steward and help minimize downstream pollution.

This is an on-demand cleanup program to remove trash from Geist Reservoir.  The trash drop-off location for this program is at the Northeast corner of Geist Waterfront Park at the end of an old ramp and is designated on the selection map in the link below.  The City will monitor the trash drop location and remove trash from the site on a regular basis, but we will not be present at the time of your arrival.  You are allowed to drop off any kind of trash that you find that you can fit within your boat.  Typical types of trash include buoys, dock floats, polystyrene, paper, metals, plastics, chairs, floatable trash, signs, logs, etc.  There are two options per below: 

1.  Boat Owners:  If you have your own canoe, kayak, pontoon, speed boat, or fishing boat and want to participate in the program, select your steward location/cove from our selection map in the link below, launch your boat from your preferred location at one of the marinas or from your personal dock, and drop off the trash at the marked trash drop location as indicated on the selection map.  The City will monitor the trash drop location and remove trash from the site on a regular basis.  The trash drop location will be marked with a sign and visible from the water and has a GPS coordinate of 85.9108378 degrees west and 39.9492044 degrees north. 

2. Non-boat Owners:  If you don’t own a boat and still want to participate, simply select one of our land-based cleanup locations on the selection map in the link below and either walk or use your vehicle to get to some of our land-based locations at bridge crossings, etc.  All land-based accessible trash can be disposed of at any one of the nearby City park locations that have accessible trash dumpsters such as Brooks School Park, Geist Waterfront Park, or Olio Fields or you may choose to dispose of the trash at your home location if the quantity is small.

Join us in serving our neighbors at the Ignite Community Dinner! This volunteer Opportunity is every Thursday evening from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. Volunteers should plan to arrive around 4:30 to begin cooking/ setting up!

Volunteers help prepare, cook, serve, and clean up a free meal of spaghetti, salad, bread, and dessert for anyone in our community. This dinner is about more than food, it’s about creating a space for fellowship, connection, and belonging. Tidying Teens volunteers help keep the library tidy, which may include dusting shelves, straightening books, notifying staff of problem areas, and other tasks. Volunteers do not shelve books. Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is the pulse of the teen community at the library. TAB members’ positive thoughts and ideas are heavily relied upon to create appropriate and engaging programs for teens. TAB members might be asked to weigh in on any topic that relates to library service for teens. Each month, volunteers choose to work on projects with the Events Committee or the Social Media Committee during the TAB meeting. Teens receive volunteer time for participating in monthly meetings. Volunteers must be enrolled in grades 6-12.

The NAMI Ending the Silence Volunteer Experience:

NAMI Indiana is currently looking for volunteers for our NAMI Ending the Silence presentation. Ending the Silence (ETS) is a prevention and early intervention program that engages youth, school staff and families in a discussion about mental health. Audience members learn to recognize the early warning signs of mental health conditions and learn what to do if they or someone they know is showing these signs. The chance to hear directly from a young adult with a mental health condition dispels myths, instills a message of hope and recovery and encourages individuals to reduce stigma. Volunteers can get trained to be a lead or young adult presenter. The lead presenter shares an informative presentation via PowerPoint(25 mins), while the young adult presenter shares their journey of recovery (10 mins).

Training:

NAMI Ending the Silence volunteers will go through a self-paced online training. Once the training is completed, volunteers must complete a mock presentation with the NAMI Indiana staff before being cleared to give their first presentation.

Minimum Time Commitment Requirements:

We ask all volunteers to commit to at least 1 presentation per month when applicable.

Program leader qualifications:

Prospective leaders must meet one of the following descriptions: (1) young adult age 18-35 in recovery with a mental health condition; (2) adult who is either a family member or a person with a mental health condition.

Through comprehensive training and the power of lived experience, our volunteers provide active listening, empathy, and support as families and individuals navigate their mental health journeys. Volunteers are asked to complete an application, a NAMI Indiana screening call, complete 8 hours of hybrid training, and fulfill a background check.

Distribution Center 1201 E. Maryland Street:  This is the hub that receives all the material donations from our community. We need volunteers to receive and sort/organize clothing, shoes, linens, and household donations. Also need volunteers to assist at the dock.

To further ensure the quality of life we enjoy, the City of Fishers has enacted the Adopt-A-Road program to improve the environment and beautify our roadsides.

Established in 1992, the Adopt-A-Road program is an opportunity for individuals, community groups, and organizations to volunteer and take pride in the appearance of our community. At the same time, this allows the City to concentrate more of its resources on road maintenance and construction.

By giving our office 48-hour advanced notice, we will be able to provide you with all the necessary equipment needed to perform your pick-ups. The city will supply safety vests, gloves, and plastic trash bags. Upon your notification, we will remove the bags from the roadside, and any large or dangerous items that you/your organization flag.

Project Play relies heavily on volunteer support, especially during the holiday season, when they receive nearly half of their referrals. Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals, families, or groups (such as Scouts or sports teams) and include donation delivery, sorting and organizing items in the warehouse, packing donation bags, and even take-home projects, such as categorizing books or changing out batteries in toys. Project Play is also in need of adult volunteers with skills or interests in marketing and fundraising. To volunteer with Project Play, please email Angie Lacy at info@projectplayinc.org. 

As a volunteer social media influencer, you’ll play a crucial role in promoting our organization’s mission and engaging with our online community. Your efforts will help raise awareness, drive traffic, and foster meaningful connections across various social media platforms.

Noblesville Creates is looking for volunteers to work shifts during open hours.  You would be responsible for greeting guests and helping staff with event set-up, inventory, and other administrative tasks.  A staff member will be on duty the entire time. 

You would help the staff set-up for First Friday.  This might involved moving tables, setting up tents, and organizing the campus.  

Each day, Wheeler Mission is blessed with a large number of donations, and community volunteers walk alongside us to sort and organize clothing, toiletries, and miscellaneous items to ultimately be distributed to our guests experiencing homelessness.

Qualifications:

For this shift, you will sort and organize donations that will be sent to our shelters to care for guests!

Central Indiana FCA is looking for volunteers in ministry with a desire to impact student athletes and coaches, their teams, schools and our community. FCA provides unique volunteer opportunities that allow individuals to be actively involved in a local mission with incredible impact. These volunteer opportunities provide a chance to join God at work and see His impact on a day to day basis in our local community.  Some ways to get involved: Adopting a school for regular prayer, serving as a Team Character Coach (Chaplain), becoming a member of our Leadership Board, volunteering at an FCA camp or clinic, providing Bibles to students & coaches, helping to raise support, joining an event committee, providing pre-game meals to student athletes & coaches on campus. The City of Fishers has enacted the Adopt-A-Storm Drain program to improve the water quality of our streams while reducing flood risk in our community. Storm drains (also known as catch basins) are crucial parts of the city’s infrastructure that collect rainfall and snowmelt that cannot be absorbed through asphalt or pavement. Keeping these drains clear and free of debris prevents pollutants from entering local waterways and helps reduce localized flooding by ensuring water can flow freely down the drain. 

Adopt-a-Storm Drain is a Fishers volunteer program that provides the public with an opportunity to be actively involved in clearing storm drains.  The endeavor strives to improve the water quality of our streams while reducing flood risk in our community. Storm drains are important infrastructure that redirect rainfall to our waterways. They can often get clogged with debris or used for dumping pollutants. Protect storm drains near you by making sure only rain goes down the drain! The City of Fishers is asking residents and other community members to sign up and Adopt-A-Storm Drain to help keep Fishers safe.

We are so happy you are interested in volunteering with Team Teter!  This is a dynamic farm with lots of opportunities to serve and be in community.  We are happy to answer all of your questions.  Please start by reading about the volunteer teams and and getting a feel for what opportunities are available. 

Wash Pack-Veggie Prep Team: The wash pack team is active weekly from late May to late October in 2023. This crew washes or otherwise cleans, packages, bunches, weighs, and sorts our harvest for sale and distribution. Each shift is two hours.  Most job require standing on hard surfaces but we can accommodate for seated positions.
