We currently serve 250 guests for each meal and need your help serving food and offering a friendly face! Others new and gently used items are sold to the community, the Store helps fund life-changing programs. Volunteers sort and organize donations alongside staff members and other volunteers. The time slots listed are suggested serving times. Volunteer: Giving Garden VolunteerDo you love gardening? The Hamilton County Master Gardeners Association is seeking volunteers to help with the Giving Garden located on the grounds of Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, 10500 E 126th Street, Fishers, IN. Volunteers are needed to assist with the following: September – October - November Harvesting, weeding, garden clearance (scouts), composting, cover crop planting, hardware removal, manure fertilizing, path maintenance, weed tarp application, inventory supplies, evaluate fabric and equipment, close irrigation system. Harvest seeds. Secure co-chairs and crop captains for next year. Elementary school students’ visits. Annual HCMGA committee reviews. December – January – February – March Order seeds, nursery services, supplies and equipment. Off-season maintenance. Cover crop mowing. Move, remove weed control tarps and landscape fabric for new season. Apply compost, manure fertilizer and pre-emergent herbicide as required. Volunteer recruitment. April – May – Early June Prepare planting rows: tilling, mulch, landscape fabric, initial weeding. Set up hardware, fencing, row covers and irrigation system. Plant seeds, sets and seedlings (student help). Monitor and adjust irrigation, fertilizer, weed and pest control. Hand water as needed. Thin and trim plantings. Weed. Volunteer: Volunteer for the Carmel Marathon with HeroHut & SERVE VillageSERVE Village is partnering with Hero Hut as they host their hospitality event at the Carmel Marathon. Hero Hut exists so every American Veteran can feel a sense of connectedness, support and hope after service. There are estimated to be over 6,000 runners at the 16th Carmel Marathon this year. It is the second largest marathon in Indiana and a top qualifying event for the Boston Marathon. Please join us on Sunday, May 31st as we provide 2000+ meals and Veteran resources/activation space. 2 shifts: 7-10am and 9:30am-1pm Each shift will need: *5 cooks - we'll be making pancakes on griddles and sausage *20 General volunteers to help as needed with the event, directing people, cleaning up tables, being a "gopher" for things on site, etc. Volunteers will meet at the Hero Hut - breakfast tent - video link attached to the area. Hero Hut exists so every American Veteran can feel a sense of connectedness, support and hope after service. There are estimated to be over 6,000 runners at the 16th Carmel Marathon this year. It is the second largest marathon in Indiana and a top qualifying event for the Boston Marathon. Please join us on Sunday, May 31st as we provide 2000+ meals and Veteran resources/activation space. 2 shifts: 7-10am and 9:30am-1pm Each shift will need: *5 cooks - we'll be making pancakes on griddles and sausage *20 General volunteers to help as needed with the event, directing people, cleaning up tables, being a "gopher" for things on site, etc. Volunteers will meet at the Hero Hut - breakfast tent - video link attached to the area. We will begin cooking around 7:15a. If anyone is able to come around 6:30, a few extra hands to prep are appreciated. Trash, debris, and pollutants in the reservoir do not stay in one spot forever: it all moves on to other rivers, lakes, and streams. Even the harmful chemicals found in trash, debris, and pollutants present dangers to all forms of aquatic life. Cleaning up our waterways prevents pollution like plastic waste from reaching our oceans. 80% of plastic waste is carried to oceans via small rivers and streams that flow through densely populated urban areas. Plastic in our waterways can get entangled with wildlife, or can sometimes look like food to them. Do your part by becoming a Geist Reservoir Cleanup Steward and help minimize downstream pollution. This is an on-demand cleanup program to remove trash from Geist Reservoir. The trash drop-off location for this program is at the Northeast corner of Geist Waterfront Park at the end of an old ramp and is designated on the selection map in the link below.
