Volunteer: Nickel Plate Trail Steward VolunteerTo further ensure the quality of life of the trail, protect and preserve its condition, and continue to beautify features along the trail, the City of Fishers enacted the Nickel Plate Trail Steward program. The Steward Program allows the public to be directly engaged in caring for and maintaining the Nickel Plate Trail and thus benefit the entire community by safeguarding the long-term sustainability and longevity of our Nickel Plate Trail. Becoming a Nickel Plate Trail Steward Requirements Stewards must: Be 18 years of age or older or if under the age of 18 be accompanied by an adult Sign a NPT Stewards agreement application Ability to commit to a 12-month minimum period of service Ability to commit to steward their section of the trail at least once a month Successfully complete a background checkRole of a Trail Steward The primary role of a Steward is to care for a designated section of the NPT. Duties along the designated trail section include: Cut back vegetation from encroaching on the trail Pick up litter along the trail & easement Clean up animal waste debris and place in pet stations Clear debris from trail and return lost items to Lost & Found at City Services Building (3 Municipal Drive) Report damaged structures, pavement, and graffiti via the Stewarding summary Track volunteer hours workedPlease contact Amy Crell at crella@fishers.in.us for more information.
