Volunteer: Provide Sack Lunches

Purchase, assemble, and deliver 120-130 Sack Lunches for Wheeler Mission's Men's Residential Center!

We need YOUR help to make sure sack lunches are supplied for our guests. Sack lunches typically supplement our hot meals and are a huge help to our Kitchen Staff! This is a great way to help Wheeler Mission offsite!

All teams are required to sign up online prior to serving. Use this link to register your team.

What goes in the Sack Lunch?: Lunches should include

a sandwich (PB+J, lunchmeat, etc.), apple or orange, chips or cookies, granola bar, fruit snack or candy, and a drink (water/Gatorade, etc.).

We DO have the ability to refrigerate so things like string cheese would be great, too. Please prepare in a brown lunch sack with the date listed on the outside of the bag in Sharpie marker.

This opportunity is off-site, not at a Wheeler Mission facility. We prefer lunches to be prepared in a commercial kitchen. If that is not possible, we ask that you strongly follow the guidelines listed below:

NOT signing up for this opportunity if you aren't feeling well, have been exposed to COVID-19 or other infections, are currently under quarantine measures, etc.  Using pre-packaged food items when possible,  Wearing gloves while preparing the food, and Ensuring your workstation(s) are sanitized.

Where should I bring
the lunches?: You can bring them to the Men's Residential Center @ 245 N. Delaware St., Indianapolis, IN 46204. The drop-off entrance is accessible from the alley between the building and the small parking lot. Follow the donation signs! Park near the back doors, ring the doorbell and Staff will assist you in unloading your vehicle.

When should I bring the lunches?: You'll sign up for a shift that's from 9 am-10 am, but that's just a placeholder! You can bring them any time between 9 am-5 pm.

What if I can only provide some of what's requested?: If you are able to bring at least half, please sign up for the shift as usual. If you can bring less than half, please plan to come, but leave the shift open for others to sign up, too!

Where can I find a commercial kitchen? Most local churches have a commercial kitchen! If you don't have access to one, reach out to a Volunteer Engagement Manager to use our kitchen.

Volunteer: Provide Sack Lunches

Purchase, assemble, and deliver 180-200 Sack Lunches for Wheeler Mission's Shelter for Men!

We need YOUR help to make sure sack lunches are supplied for our guests. Sack lunches typically supplement our hot meals and are a huge help to our Kitchen Staff! This is a great way to help Wheeler Mission offsite.

What goes in the Sack Lunch?: Lunches should include:

a sandwich (PB+J, lunchmeat, etc.), apple or orange, chips or cookies, granola bar, fruit snack or candy, and a drink (water/Gatorade, etc.).

Where should I bring
the lunches?: You can bring them to the Shelter for Men @ 520 E. Market St., Indianapolis, IN 46204. The drop-off entrance is accessible from the alley next to the building on the east side using Door #4 or Door #2!

Where do I find a commercial kitchen? Try your local church! Most churches have a commercial kitchen on-site. If you're not able to find a location, feel free to use ours! Coordinate with a Volunteer Engagement Manager to set this up.

Volunteer: Maker Playground 5th Grade Study Trip Station Leaders

Would you like an ongoing volunteer opportunity that will foster relationships and connect with the youth of Hamilton Southeastern Schools? We are seeking dedicated volunteers who are available to assist with 5th grade STEM Activities at the Maker Playground Tuesdays - Fridays from 9:45 a.m. - 2:45 p.m.  Due to the nature of this opportunity, we are asking volunteers to commit to at least one day a week through the end of the school year.  Tours will not occur during school breaks. Please do not respond to this opportunity if you are not able to volunteer once a week.

Volunteers will assist with the following activities:

Woodworking: Students will work in Project Alley to build a toolbox using precut lumber. Students will learn about working with wood and basic hand tools and measure the perimeter and area of their finished product. Robotics: Students will be able to use Dobot Robotic arms to learn about artificial intelligence and using software to make the robot write text, pick up and sort objects through various programs. Circuitry: Students will have the opportunity to problem solve the creation of a light for their locker in this experience. Construction paper, copper tape, LED diode and coin batteries will be provided. Students will learn about the basics of circuitry when they are challenged to create a switch for their locker light using materials provided.

In collaboration with Hamilton Southeastern Schools, the Maker Playground is offering an experiential and project-based curriculum for all 5th grade students.

Modeled after the successful and popular Nature First program at Ritchey Woods Nature Preserve, the program features study trips to the Maker Playground, where students are immersed in the workshop and work collaboratively to solve real-world problems.

The goal is to bridge the gap between education and industry, where students can begin thinking about how making as part of building their future career.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Amy Crell via email, or 317-670-9437.

Our volunteers offer patience, kindness and companionship to patients and their families in hopes of peace and understanding. Volunteers donate their time and efforts in a wide variety of ways, such as reading to, talking with, writing a letter for the patient or give a family member a little time off from the role of primary caregiver.

Volunteer: Geist Cleanup Steward Volunteer

Welcome to the City of Fishers Geist Reservoir Cleanup Steward Program.  Trash, debris, and pollutants in the reservoir do not stay in one spot forever: it all moves on to other rivers, lakes, and streams. Even the harmful chemicals found in trash, debris, and pollutants present dangers to all forms of aquatic life. Cleaning up our waterways prevents pollution like plastic waste from reaching our oceans. 80% of plastic waste is carried to oceans via small rivers and streams that flow through densely populated urban areas. Plastic in our waterways can get entangled with wildlife, or can sometimes look like food to them. Do your part by becoming a Geist Reservoir Cleanup Steward and help minimize downstream pollution.

This is an on-demand cleanup program to remove trash from Geist Reservoir.  The trash drop-off location for this program is at the Northeast corner of Geist Waterfront Park at the end of an old ramp and is designated on the selection map in the link below.  The City will monitor the trash drop location and remove trash from the site on a regular basis, but we will not be present at the time of your arrival.  You are allowed to drop off any kind of trash that you find that you can fit within your boat.  Typical types of trash include buoys, dock floats, polystyrene, paper, metals, plastics, chairs, floatable trash, signs, logs, etc.  There are two options per below:

1.  Boat Owners:  If you have your own canoe, kayak, pontoon, speed boat, or fishing boat and want to participate in the program, select your steward location/cove from our selection map in the link below, launch your boat from your preferred location at one of the marinas or from your personal dock, and drop off the trash at the marked trash drop location as indicated on the selection map.  The City will monitor the trash drop location and remove trash from the site on a regular basis.  The trash drop location will be marked with a sign and visible from the water and has a GPS coordinate of 85.9108378 degrees west and 39.9492044 degrees north.

2. Non-boat Owners:  If you don’t own a boat and still want to participate, simply select one of our land-based cleanup locations on the selection map in the link below and either walk or use your vehicle to get to some of our land-based locations at bridge crossings, etc.  All land-based accessible trash can be disposed of at any one of the nearby City park locations that have accessible trash dumpsters such as Brooks School Park, Geist Waterfront Park, or Olio Fields or you may choose to dispose of the trash at your home location if the quantity is small.

How to get involved: If you would like to participate in the Geist Cleanup Steward program, Please Click Here to select your steward location from our selection map. In addition, please click the blue "respond" button for this opportunity. Amy Crell, City of Fishers Volunteer Coordinator, will reach out with more information. If you would like the City of Fishers to supply trash bags and work gloves, please contact Ava Hiatt at hiatta@fishersin.gov to schedule a pickup at Fishers Municipal Complex at 1 Municipal Drive.

Reward: Upon completing their first trash pickup, Geist Cleanup Stewards are eligible to claim one of the following free coupons:

Volunteer: Food Donation Pick-Up

At Wheeler Mission–Bloomington, food is more than just nourishment—it is a vital bridge to hope, stability, and community for men and women experiencing homelessness and hunger. Every meal served at our Westplex Avenue campus represents the care and compassion of countless neighbors who give generously to meet these urgent needs. Our Food Donation Pick-Up volunteers play a key role in this effort by helping us collect donations from local grocery stores, restaurants, and community partners, ensuring that good food never goes to waste and is redirected to feed those who need it most.

This volunteer role is perfect for individuals who enjoy being out in the community, meeting partners, and knowing their time directly translates into thousands of meals each year. By using their own vehicle and assisting staff with scheduled routes, Food Donation Pick-Up volunteers provide the essential link between donors and our kitchen staff, making it possible to prepare fresh, wholesome meals every single day. The impact is immediate.  Food delivered today may be on a plate within hours, offering comfort and dignity to our guests.
